Just One Touch

There she stood. Helpless. Hopeless. And in utter desperation. The issue she had lived with her whole life had completely consumed her. It was the very thing that robbed her of her livelihood. In the Gospels we read of this woman with a very serious issue. An issue that persisted for twelve long years; constant bleeding. We are told that she sought healing from doctors, yet she didn’t get any better.

I’ve found myself in situations where I’ve attempted many remedies for uncontrollable circumstances, yet hope, healing, and peace was no where to be found. I’ve found myself in moments so low that I felt knocked down and unable to recover. So what do we do in moments of desperation?

Turn to Jesus.

In her pain, she heard of the One who brings healing and hope. She turned Jesus and her life was forever changed. As she approached Him through the crowd, and in her last attempt at healing, she reached out and touched the hem of His robe. Her simple touch in turn rendered the immediate transfer of Jesus’ healing power. It was then and there that she was healed. It was this moment, just like many throughout scripture, and our lives, that we see Jesus show up radically. She turned to Him in her moment of despair. Turn to Jesus always my friends. In moments of weakness, doubt, confusion, pain, and distress, turn to Him.

She had reached out her hand to God. She wanted to identify with Him, and in her doing so, she was healed.

In those days and in the Jewish culture, the hem of a man’s robe was deemed as an important part of their cloak. In the Mosaic Law, Jews were instructed to make tassels on the corners of their garments as a reminder that they were God’s people called to keep His commandments. The corner of a person’s garment represented his identity, essentially a symbol of who they stood for and who they identified with (this was for all the history buffs out there…heeeeeyyyy!). Jesus identified with God; He was God. She had reached out her hand to God. She wanted to identify with Him, and in her doing so, she was healed.

Have faith.

Immediately Jesus tells her it was her faith that healed her. Even in her anguish, she had faith that this was it. This was her last chance. She believed it. She knew it. And it wasn’t that Jesus’ robe had some special power, it was that He alone is powerful. I don’t know what season of life you are walking through but place your faith in the One who is always faithful. Have faith that God will show up in every situation and do the impossible. Cling tightly to Him and anchor yourself to His promises. He will do all that He has promised to do, all that you could never do, and more than you pray for Him to do.

Trust that only He can.

Whatever you’re struggling with in life, whether big or small, know that only God can bring deliverance. Even when you feel as if all hope is lost and you have exhausted all avenues of healing and peace, He can do all that you need Him to.

…reach out, touch the hem of His robe and forever experience the healing power of Jesus Christ. Just one touch could change your life forever.

He will turn your mourning into praise, your pain into purpose, your dark skies into beautiful sunrises,  and your trials into testimonies. Place your faith in Him, reach out, touch the hem of His robe and forever experience the healing power of Jesus Christ. Just one touch could change your life forever.
